"APPY HOUR" TOMORROW FROM 5.30PM AT THE 18 FOOTERS

Just a quick reminder to pop down to the 18 Footers Club from 5.30 onwards tomorrow to catch up with old friends, make new ones and find out what Paul Fordyce has to say about ELECTRONIC BUSINESS DIRECTORIES to help Double Bay Shoppers and Visitors find their way around the Village.

Paul will be talking at about 6.00pm and has already approached Wollahra Council about his idea. We understand they will be represented at the meeting.

Sunday 7 September 2014

ELECTRONIC BUSINESS DIRECTORIES FOR DOUBLE BAY??

Paul Fordyce thinks Double Bay deserves a fair when competing with the retail giants up at Bondi Junction and has suggested to Mayor Toni Zeltzer that Double Bay set up Electronic Business Directories at strategic places around Double Bay such as outside Woolworths / Dan Murphy's, The InterContinental and the Cosmopolitan Centre.

If you believe in level playing fields, take an interest in what is happening in Double Bay and want to hear what Paul has to say then come along to the 18 Footers Club from 5.30 on Tuesday 9th September - Paul will be talking at about 6.00pm - And it's easy to find the venue right beside where the ferries come in to Double Bay.

IT TAKES A LOT OF LOVE TO CREATE A LITTLE LOVE

If you've been to Chinta Kechil and wondered what inspired the decor, look no further.

The broad concept may have been from owner Simon Goh, but the detail was the inspiration of Katy Svalbe & Yasmine Ghoniem from Amber Road Design.

Born and educated on opposite sides of the globe, sisters Katy and Yasmine reunited in Sydney in 2011 to work together on a major design project. Their studio prides itself on creating unique, practical, intelligent yet playful design solutions for clients across a range of sectors and budgets.

Their work on Chinta Kechil is proof of their flair, and attention to detail - the tiles in the dining area are custom designed and manufactured and the light fittings above their heads (out of shot) are hand made by the sisters themselves.

Chinta means Love in Malaysian and Kechil means Little - But designing Double Bay's latest eatery has certainly taken a Lot of Love

PRESIDENT BUSH, BILL CLINTON & LADY DI

Eleni Boutique has seen them all come and go and been a fixture on Cross Street since before the Ritz Carlton was built. All of which makes them one of Double Bay's quiet achievers.

With their wide range of casual ladies wear and a mix and match approach they have stood the test of time as a Double Bay ladies fashion retailer.

Arriving when Cross Street was less fashionable than today they have seen the arrival of the Ritz Carlton (later Stamford Plaza Hotel) and can't wait to see the opening of the new Inter Continental hotel - mooted for August 2014.

But even though those heady days have passed they continue to provide outstanding service and fashion to their loyal clients and will no doubt go from strength to strength when the Inter Continental arrives later this year and when Cinemas again return to Double Bay (this time in Cross Street instead of New South Head Road).

YOUR EYES ARE THE WINDOWS TO YOUR SOUL

And with just days to go before Easter NOW is the right time to pop into Eyebrow Experts for that special treatment that will show them at their absolute best.

Director and Chief Brow Artist, Svetlana Burckhardt, has a passion for eyebrows that borders on the obsessive. The arch nemesis of ugly brows, she’ll measure, pluck, wax and bully your brows into their ideal shape.

“I love them! They are so, so important and can conceal or draw attention away from facial flaws. If they are done professionally and are symmetrical, they are as powerful as a facelift. Great eyebrows make you look younger, sexier and more sophisticated,” she raves.

A qualified beauty therapist and makeup artist, Svetlana has over 15 years experience in the beauty industry. She launched EyebrowExperts in 2005 and works from her studio in Beautiful Double Bay.

FINDING A LITTLE LOVE IN DOUBLE BAY

Google the word Chinta and you will find that it literally means "Love" in the Malay language.

Harness that with the word "Kechil" (the old Malasian word for small) and you have yourself a "LITTLE LOVE" - Right here in the heart of Double Bay at 342 New South Head Road.

Opening with little fanfare June 10 it is the latest venture by the owner of Chinta Ria at Cockle Bay.

With great decor and delicious Malasian food it's a welcome addition to Double Bay's growing choice of international dining styles.

Manager Alison will immediately make you feel at home and owner Simon Goh talks of plans to expand saying, ''We're most likely doing a vintage jazz dining room in a neighbouring property that will open in three or four months".

So all in all it looks like Chinta Kechil really is the place to FIND A LITTLE LOVE IN DOUBLE BAY.

If you, or someone you know, has also brought a bit of beauty to Double Bay let us know by sending a picture to friends@discoverdoublebay.com.au

END OF DAY IN DOUBLE BAY

The Curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd wind slowly o'er the lea,
The ploughman homeward plods his weary way,
And leaves the world to darkness and to me.

Now fades the glimmering landscape on the sight,
And all the air a solemn stillness holds,
Save where the beetle wheels his droning flight,
And drowsy tinklings lull the distant folds;

Save that from yonder ivy-mantled tower
The moping owl does to the moon complain
Of such as, wandering near her secret bower,
Molest her ancient solitary reign.

Beneath those rugged elms, that yew-tree's shade,
Where heaves the turf in many a mouldering heap,
Each in his narrow cell for ever laid,
The rude forefathers of the hamlet sleep.

You can find out more about this car (and just how great the interior looks) by visiting The Cadillac Man

TEACH YOUR DOG SOME CLASS - A well trained dog's a Happy Dog

Funny thing, a well trained dog gets more freedom than one that is left to its own devices.

That's because poorly behaved dogs are a pain to everyone so don't get to go to many places, and even when they do, find themselves on a short leash.

Vet HQ loves dogs and wants them to be as happy as they can possibly be so every Sunday at 10.00 am they hold dog training at their premises in Double Bay. Come along to:-

KUNDALINI YOGA IN DOUBLE BAY

ʻKundalini Yoga uses movement, sound current, breath ‘praanayam’ and meditation to relax and heal your mind & body, allowing the spirit to flow freely. Kundalini Yoga brings a greater feeling of self-acceptance, well-being and happiness – our natural birthright as humans. This powerful and effective form of Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., Master of Kundalini Yoga, is a great way to help you to heal, recharge and be happy.

From your very first class, you’ll reap the rewards including – relief from back pain, stress, addiction, depression, insomnia & weight control. Kundalini Yoga promises you peace of mind.

Each class usually entails tuning in to a simple mantra, a Kriya (yoga set of exercises designed to work on a specific task), relaxation, meditation (silent or using mantra) and an ending blessing.
